From Curator to Creator.
14 years ago, I launched a boutique homewares and gifts store in the Manawatu called Urban Charm which focused primarily on bringing the very best of New Zealand ethical brands to my customers. However four years ago I made the tough decision to close my store after the impact of Covid made it difficult to continue. Faced with what to do next, I took the opportunity to pivot and learn everything I could about pottery. I started with simple hand building with clay and progressed to learning how to throw on the wheel. I explored many different decorative techniques and glazes before landing on creating my own signature glazes from scratch.
When I started making pottery I had the dream that someday I would launch my own homewares brand. After four years of commitment, investment, risk taking, and learning, Urban Charm Studio is that dream becoming a reality. I am incredibly proud of the work I am making, which brings together both beauty and function in pieces that are suitable for every day use, thus elevating even the most ordinary of daily rituals to pleasurable, mindful, connected experiences.
